The Alchemy of Fermentation:
Learn the artistry and alchemy to make fermented foods at home, which are medicinal, delicious, and healing! We will explore the medicinal aspects and science to the methods of fermentation, and the ingredients one can use as well as give a start to finish demonstration of how to make your own at home.

In this workshop Dan De Lion of Return to Nature will share the history and origins of fermentation, the metaphors and symbolism that alchemy brings behind these practices, and how to apply it as a tool for self introspection, and alchemical transmutation. Dan will also discuss recent major breakthroughs the modern scientific understanding of the role of bacteria in human health and survival, and how proper gut bacteria is at the leading edge of healing the western worlds major diseases.

Dan De Lion is a Forager, Herbalist, and Musician dedicated to working with Nature to further the healing of the planet and the soul. Dan teaches through Return to Nature (ReturntoNature.us), which provides classes in foraging and herbalism, making homemade remedies from herbs, fermentation and kombucha classes, and primitive and survival skills. He also makes and sells herbal products, teaches music, yoga, chanting, and meditation as well as nutrition and health consultations, mentorships, and group in-home custom herbalism classes.
Monique and I are very excited to join forces to create a dynamic and engaging class for anyone interested in learning more about the plants, trees, and mushrooms around us!
We will make medicinal oils for salves, tinctures, medicinal vinegars, honeys, liniments and learn to cook delicious meals with plants from our local unique ecosystem! We will be immersing ourselves in nature and gathering plants from the landscape in each class, so come prepared to get your hands dirty! Together we will fill our cabinets with effective natural medicines you will know how and when to use on yourself or others. We will personalize the class based on your skill level, so come whether you are a beginner or advanced student. This class is open to anyone ages 16 and up.
This is a 3 month class series, you must register for the entire series together.

Monarch Apothecary will be vending at this year's event with a full line of herbals including flower essences, balms, teas, smudge, elixirs and a line of women's health specific products: vaginal steam herbs, castor oil packs, faja, womb oils, and natural menstrual care items. Join us this spring at Moon Valley Farm and Monarch Apothecary for a 6-week, hands on herbal medicine immersion experience.
In this 20+ hour course you will:
* Learn to identify and sustainably harvest local, abundant, wild and cultivated medicinal plants.
*Create a small personal medicine chest of potent plant medicines such as infusions, salves, tinctures, teas, flower essences, talismans and more.
*Connect deeply with the plants and others as we explore plant spirit medicine practices from around the world.
*Taste and gather recipes for delicious wild foods.
*Explore herbal medicine actions so you can begin formulating tonics + remedies for yourself, family, and friends.
There will be two sessions available with a limit of 10 participants per session:
